  • Site Feasibility: Assess the feasibility of proposed sites for various uses, considering community impact and recommending suitable site utilization.
  • Master Capital Plan: Collaborate on the creation, review, and presentation of DCSD's annual Master Capital Plan, which outlines recommendations for potential projects over the next five years.
  • Bond Elections: Play a pivotal role in helping the Board of Education identify projects for current and future bond elections, ensuring that our community's investment aligns with educational goals.
  • School Capacity and Boundary Analysis:  Studies student populations and recommends potential solutions for overcrowded and substantially under-enrolled schools.

If you reside within the Douglas County School District and are interested in serving on this important committee, please complete and submit the LRPC Application for Membership. Applications will be accepted year-round with new terms typically starting July 1st.

Douglas County School District established the Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC) in 1983 as an advisory body to the Board of Education. The charge of the LRPC is to continually analyze population trend data, to evaluate population impacts on District education mission and support facilities, to collect community feedback, and to recommend appropriate actions to the Board of Education regarding school attendance boundaries, facility usage (including new construction, renovation, repurpose, or closure) and anticipated capital outlay requirements. Additionally, LRPC members assist in assessing site feasibility for proposed uses by evaluating community impact and recommending site utilization. Finally, LRPC members help to create, review, and present DCSD’s annual Master Capital Plan, which contains recommendations for possible projects in the next five years. The Master Capital Plan helps the Board of Education determine projects for current and future bond elections. The LRPC is a valuable liaison between the community and the Board of Education.

Meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday of each month, with additional subcommittee meetings as needed. Occasionally, public meetings are held to review specific projects or policy changes with impacted stakeholders.

**Please be aware that if LRPC members apply to work for DCSD (either by a solicitation, responding to an RFQ or RFP, etc.), they may be asked to resign from the LRPC.

Please contact Shavon Caldwell, Planning Manager at [email protected] for questions or concerns.
